Dovetail really makes analysis and sharing insights easy

주석: I love Dovetail for our research analysis and repository tool. We're always identifying new ways to leverage the tool for research needs. Dovetail is also really receptive to feedback, constantly improving, and doing research on the researchers.

I LOVE that you are able to have a robust tool that includes analysis capabilities and houses insights from research. This gives stakeholders the ability to search all insights and view things like reading a medium article and also search historical insights. It also speeds up analysis with filtering options and highlights to filter down to key information to support an insight / finding.

단점:

I would like to be able to track dates of when insights were created (not just when published in feed) so we can track age as well as somehow track the impact of the insight (e.g., what was done from it), to make reporting on research value easier.

Good for qualitative analysis, not great for insights discoverability

장점:

Dovetail is a great platform to analyze qualitative data from user interviews. We use it for all qualitative research projects, at least 2-3 times a month. The platform offers many solutions to improve the efficiency and accuracy of this process, such as automated transcripts, tags, and AI features to detect relevant quotes and help organize data. They also provide project templates so the platform is easy to use and implement. Their customer support is great and always provides helpful resources.

Qualitative data analysis: While Dovetail is pretty good on this front already, they could add a few features to make this process easier. - Speakers in the transcripts are not automatically assigned. - There is no way to timestamp the notes so it's challenging to use and understand them in the context of the interview. - There is no way to write down insights as you analyze the transcript. - We need to manually add transcripts from Google Drive which is time-inefficient. - Create AI summaries and look for relevant themes with AI based on provided hypotheses we try to test during research. - Based on provided hypotheses and interview transcripts, provide assessment of how well we were able to address the hypotheses in the interview, what we can improve in the script to do it better, and notes for improvement for the facilitator. Research repository: Insights in Dovetail are not easily discoverable. - No way to tag insights, - No way to save search filters for others to use, - No way to see all research in a simple, easy to navigate view.

Great concept, but the app isn't quite there yet

Being able to see the engagement and following size for the applicants.

단점:

There wasn't a way to really customize my payouts. I wanted my affiliates to be paid a % of the net profits, as opposed to the total order and there was no way to really customize how I wanted my affiliates paid. Overall, the dashboard was nice and the app has potential, but it just really didn't work for my needs.

Dovetail is what i was searching to create a robust research repository

주석: Its been a good experience overall, i have helped my team's research and data to connect with other teams, and the the 10 licenses limit is too short, because everyone wants to jump onboard

It is a very powerful tool although it present thing in a very friendly and easy to use way. It main strength is on the analysis of video, it generates a very accurate transcript, it have AI tools to speed the summary and tagging process

단점:

Processing PDF is not their strong suit. PDFs look very small once you upload them and the highlighting process is not great.

Beautiful way to conduct customer research

Dovetail is EXCEPTIONAL at customer research. It's built specifically for this use case and it feels like they've thought about every single detail about it. I love that you can drop a transcript or a video interview and get it transcribed in seconds, ready to be analyzed. The highlights and tags methodology is scalable and you can customize it to whatever research process or nomenclature you use. Dovetail's interface is beautiful, making it an absolute joy to use day in and day out.

It can take some time to load highlights if you have a large project.

Magic features help me analyse my research with ease and enables me to spend more time using my research than managing it

주석: I've used Dovetail for 2 years in two different organisations. It's been an absolute gamechanger as a super stretched Product Designer who's responsible for research through to visual design and a hand full of other roles too! Dovetail is the best tool I have as it's empowered me to empower customer research and insights into my teams, founders and engineers. You need everyone making decisions based on customer insight, not their opinions and this is the tool that helps!

Dovetail feels like my research superpower. I easily raved about Dovetail pre-magic AI features because it was still so easy and powerful for helping me take my interviews through documentation and analysing for key insights + sharing and empowering my team with that information. And now, with new magic (AI) capabilities and where I think they are going next with the product, I am not only raving, but I am full fan-girl!!! It's hard to summarise in a few sentences! Now I can import an interview recording, click a few buttons and have summaries, highlights (using my custom tags) and shareable insights. What took me days now takes me minutes and I have more time to focus on using my research than analysing it. Getting started is also a piece of cake because they have templates you can use straight out the box and I use the google integration to quickly pull in my interviews after a google meet recording. I use Dovetail daily and it's become a staple resource from our Founders to our software engineers.

단점:

Sometimes the transcribing works really well and other times it's a bit off and combines phrases from multiple speakers together in a single block. It's never been a deal breaker though because the rest of the product is so good.

An innovative, powerful user-centric tool created by an incredible team!

주석: After an extensive comparative audit of repository tools at the time, Dovetail exceeded expectations with its customer service, integrations, and innovative product design during my usage for 3 years. I worked on a small team that lacked in-house research operations support, so UX Researchers were tasked with both the execution of research and management of our work, including the development and maintenance of a research repository. Dovetail helped lighten the load of this additional role and significantly contributed to strengthened partnerships across functions.

Dovetail gracefully balances intuitive UX and powerful functionality. It is easy not only for UXRs to use, but also for non-researcher stakeholders at all levels to navigate and contribute. Insights that contributed to broader insight reports and could be highlighted in reels or feeds fit our organization's mental model and gave us the framework to continue educating our stakeholders on the power of UXR. The customizable templates are particularly beneficial for structuring research output and synthesizing insights effectively for various methods and altitudes of projects. For our UXR team, it allows for customization through templates and to easily control for privacy and security.

단점:

Generally I can think of few cons about Dovetail! At the time, the list of product integrations was still growing, but see that the team has already made significant strides in expanding that list. Dovetail also is extremely receptive to user feedback and truly feels like a user-first business. That said, changes and improvements to the platform were frequent and common. Sometimes this inhibited our ability to stick with an established process with the tool, and it required us to restructure our repository slightly and re-socialize education to our stakeholders on how to utilize Dovetail. Ultimately, however, it was great to see Dovetail lead innovation in this product space for UXR teams.

Dovetail has been a game changer for our product team

주석: Dovetail brings all of our user research feedback into one place and allows any user to easily find information about what customers are looking for. It is also makes doing qualitative research analysis a breeze. I can easily organize my notes and analyze the findings super fast, moving projects along faster. A total game changer for analysis.

Dovetail has opened up customer feedback to our entire product team. I use this product daily, and we have hundreds of hours in our repository that allow our product team to get a temperature gauge on our customers on any subject we've collected feedback on. The AI summaries are amazing and allow users to quickly understand the customer problem by summarizing across all mentions. Overall the product is incredibly easy to get up and running and sharing out feedback outside of Dovetail. We are so happy to have a repository to organize product feedback.

It can be a bit tricky navigating around the product sometimes and I wish we were able to timebox search results. For example, it would be helpful to know feedback about a particular feature since its redesign 6 months ago. Any feedback before them would not be as relevant and we would want to exclude those from the summary.

best tool any researcher can have in their toolbox

주석: Overall it's the best tool any researcher can have in their toolbox since it solves for documenting, analysing and reporting findings in a smooth way in one place.

I like the fact that with dovetail we have consolidated all of our research projects including the recorsings, analysis and reports into a single platform. Also for international companies, the transcriptions in multiple languages and using AI for analysis in a valuable time saving feature. I also love the AI's help with directly extracting the answers to the initial research questions from the transcripts which streamlines the analysis process.

단점:

Navigating through Dovetail (notes, insights, highlights, etc) is a bit challenging for non researchers. As a researcher, I appreciate the flexiblity but it might not work for other roles. and also it can lead to inconsistent documentation styles across different research projects conducted by different researchers, making it yet more dificult for others to navigate. on the other hand, I also find dovetail not an ideal tool for managing analysing survey data.

Accelerating our learnings across the organisation

주석: Dovetail has been a huge help in speeding up our team’s learning. Being able to share video highlights from interviews makes it super easy for everyone to see the key insights quickly, and it’s been great for keeping stakeholders engaged

The platform is constantly improving, which has made it easier for us to make data-driven decisions and get useful insights faster. Overall, it’s made a big difference in how we work.

It is changing and improving fast so I need to upskill, not a bad problem to have but finding the time to prioritise can be difficult.

Godsend for qualitative researchers

주석: I honestly have more good things to say about this app than I can fit into a Capterra review. It’s become a cornerstone of my business, and I’m just a single researcher—can’t imagine how much more useful this would be with a larger team at scale.

Tried a bunch of other tools for coding and markup of interview transcripts. Nothing came even close to Dovetail’s ease of use, robust feature set, and tools for data analysis. Marking up transcripts is super-easy: the tag UI pops up whenever you select some text, tags autocomplete, and you can organize them into themes without leaving the notes UI. The insights UI is like a Google doc linked to your highlights and tags—you can write up your observations, then add quotes to illustrate your points. Reporting is also great, and lets you see both which tags recur across the largest number of interviews, as well as which ones have the highest amount of tagged text. This is really helpful for quickly getting a sense of where the data is leading without getting too deep into the weeds. You can also track tags over time, which is super-helpful if you want to use the automated import and sentiment analysis to pump support emails into this and track customer satisfaction over time.

단점:

The bugfixes come quickly, so anything I add here will be out of date. Most recently, minor hiccups with where highlights are placed in the text when adding them to the middle of an insight.

Dovetail makes it easy to collate, analyse and store qualitative research.

I really love working in Dovetail. It is such an easy tool to use and the interface design is intuitive, open and clean making it seem effortless. The real power of Dovetail is that is makes research transparent. All data, observation notes, images and files can be organised in any way that makes sense for the project or your organisation, and can be tagged easily, speeding up analysis, and allowing for insights to be shared quickly and easily. With Dovetail, research data remains accessible long after any research project has finished. This means valuable insights are no longer buried in reports that get forgotten, but can be continuously reviewed and built upon as new data is collected. Dovetail has quickly become an indispensable tool for us.

단점:

Being a relatively new tool, there are some functional limitations but I have no doubt that the Dovetail team will deliver. They continue to seek feedback from users and are transparent with their product roadmap.

Dovetail makes analysis of user research and customer interviews effortless

주석: Improved effiency with our user research and customer interview projects

장점:

It's really easy to import raw user research notes from customer interviews and contextual inquiries. Dovetail lets you synthesis your research and identify themes by highlighting creating tags. You can then visualise your tags in charts or in the board view. A neat feature is the automatic sentiment analysis that can identify whether comments from your notes are positive or negative. We use this feature to categorise customer feedback we collect our products. Before Dovetail we would use Microsoft Excel to identify themes but this was cumbersome and was hard to share with the team.

단점:

Dovetail could do a better job at storing insights and being a shared knowledgebase or library for research in our team. We've passed on this feedback and the Dovetail tell seem to understand this desire and shared that they have ambitions to move into this area in the future. At the moment Dovetail seems focused on building the best features for research analysis and synthesis.

Capturing insights without all the messy paperwork

I've been involved in software research projects for nearly 10 years. This process is often incredibly messy, tedious and highly intensive (in terms of labor). You're often living in sticky note hell and it's even more challenging to do this as a remote team. The one thing Dovetail does an incredible job at is making it easy to aggregate qualitative research, identify trends and produce reports quickly without all that manual work. Works greatly for distributed teams and helps you scale your research efforts across your org. Key features that I can't live without: * Notes ability - adding all your research and interviews * Tagging - Ability to annotate your notes with keywords your team has aligned on. * Insights - ability to summarize your learnings for stakeholders. What's great is that it's very easy for a stakeholder to know exactly how you concluded a set of insights with the ability to see customer and research quotes for each tag or insight.

단점:

Can be a bit hard to get started - getting your head around notes/tags and insights (they all look the same at first!)

Phenomenal company

주석: Dovetail has been phenomenal. Thought leadership from the support team - constant communications, and exceptional assistance in getting set up. The tool has reduced my team’s time from synthesis to actionable insights from days to hours.

I have zero complaints about dovetail. From the implementation to the efficacy of the tool, everything has been fantastic.

Great tool for processing user interviews

주석: Dovetail helps us keep all recordings and insights from interviews in one place. The major benefit is the ability to use tags to classify insights and quotes from customers, making knowledge easily accessible when needed. We often take screenshots from Dovetail and paste them into our work boards to help set the context for meetings or to advocate for a user pain point we believe should be addressed.

My team and I have been using Dovetail for three years now, and it’s our go-to platform for processing user interviews. It's incredibly easy to upload a recording and start tagging insights. The UI is simple and beautiful, and we love it!

단점:

The navigation within the app can sometimes be confusing, and we've struggled to expand its use cases. While we use it extensively for processing user interviews, other types of feedback are kept separate, which creates some friction that we haven't been able to resolve yet.

Hierarchy of Information

주석: My experience has been great due to the simplicity of use and the ease of tagging and clustering. I enjoyed the specificity of it, it does that in a very efficient way.

That you can organize and structure research content and move from qualitative data to tags to insights smoothly

단점:

There are not enough sub-levels in the tab system: for instance If I have a research project that includes three main different research streams or experiments and within these three I have tabs with multiple notes, I don't have all these levels to organize my research. I also wish it was possible to create spreadsheets or diagrams within the notes easely (no through integration with other apps). I also wish the insights section was linkable to the notes and tags.

Best customer research analysis tool

주석: Overall, Dovetail has saved us so much time that we used to spend on UX research which means we can now invest that time into making our products better for our customers.

Dovetail has been a game changer for us when it comes to having a research repository, sharing, analysing and synthesising research notes and extracting insights from our user research interviews using Dovetail's new Ai features means we can do that in half the time it used to take us when we didn't use Dovetail.

I believe they've fixed this now but managing users and distinguishing users from research participants used to be confusing

The best product for user interview data

Best in class insights tool

주석: My experience with Dovetail has been nothing but excellent. It's a very easy tool to use that fulfils its function perfectly. Highly recommended.

Tagging highlights in automatic transcripts and then making a video reel of all the relevant points feels like magic. It's a really powerful tool that's very easy to use.

It could have a more integrated approach to its Channels functionality, which would allow automating the research process more.

Dovetail is good for collecting and analyzing the data

주석: I use Dovetail to store and analyze data collected during different types of UX researches. Dovetail gives you an opportunity to easily find anything anytime in the immense amount of data, and to process it into an easy readable and sharable insight.

It's easy to use, and it really saves your time. It suits different types of qualitative research. The interface of this service is cute and easy to use. Support is more than helpful.

Sometimes the bugs might be found. The Dovetail team fixes them very quickly though.

One place for all your insigts

장점:

One place for all your data and findings. Free viewer accounts - the whole team can access the insights and drill down to the source. Can integrate with survey platforms through Zapier to have satisfaction surveys automatically imported.

단점:

Sometimes sluggish when adding or removing tags. Automatic transcription works poorly with non-English languages.

Effective research repository tool

장점:

Incredily intuitive tool that makes it simple to capture and later analyse pieces of user research (in order to share back with the wider product team). It is suitable for both longform unstructured interviews or individually received shortform feedback with meta data. Quickly triaging and tagging qualitative research in this way is simpler easier in Dovetail than other tools I have used.

단점:

I would like more computer-assisted automation during the analysis phase and this is an area that I would be excited to see how the team behind Dovetail tackles

Changed the way I analyze user interviews

장점:

I love the way Dovetail offers auto-transcribing videos (to my surprise it worked really well with Polish language), and jumping through that video by selecting the right parts from transcription. With highlighter and tagging I can quickly find the most interesting parts of the video. Before, my team rarely watched the recordings from usability testing, but it changed with relevant clips made in Dovetail. And it really changed their attitude to feedback when they were able to see participants reactions, instead of just summary.

단점:

When I started to use Dovetail I felt that there should be more guidance on how to organise my work in that tool so it would be most helpful. I had to spent a lot of time to figure it out, and re-iterate on my initial ideas.
