Excellent open and free solution to team communication

주석: Setup was smooth, server operation is transparent, user management trivial and everything just clicked into place when we were looking for a simple yet functional solution to team chat

장점:

Mattermost was absolutely trivial to set up and maintain, which was a huge plus back during the first dawn of Covid where we struggled to find a solution to team chat that allowed us to host on-premise, keeping all our data local - a must for many projects which have complicated data privacy regulations that are a nightmare to work around with cloud based products

단점:

One of the paid feature is unlimited search, and as a free user (10,000 line search limit, I think), it is often unclear whether you can't find what you're looking for because you hit the limit or because it's just not there.

Mattermost: Self-Hosted Superior Alternative To Slack

주석: Mattermost allows us to quickly keep connected to our colleagues across the world. It allows people to form groups and chat easily to many different teams, all within the same desktop app, web app, or mobile app.

장점:

This software is very easy to install and supports a simple Docker install, which makes it easy to keep up to date and secure. There are multiple examples on installing and running Mattermost in different cloud hosting environments, and the user community is also very helpful. Running the software locally means you can keep a much better eye on its security and usage. Its user management and directory integration is superior to Slack's. The desktop and mobile clients are fast and easy to install/configure/maintain.

단점:

There's not much that I dislike about Mattermost. Its open source nature may put some people off, but paid support and enterprise licensing solve that issue immediately.

Almost really good.

주석: Slack with AD integration at half the cost. But I still wish I could afford Slack.

장점:

Slack integrations just work on Mattermost. The theme choices are very nice. The ability to host my own on-premises server is very nice. Technical support staff is very knowledgeable and competent. I'm not made to feel like an idiot if there is some specialized knowledge that I don't have.

단점:

The Android client is extremely buggy and fairly slow still. Selecting a push notice to open Mattermost to view and respond in the thread does not always open the right thread and is always slow (even on LAN, with the latest gen of Android phone!)). The client MUST be snappy and it just.. isn't. The Windows client becomes slower and slower the longer you have it open, so it must be restarted every day or two. It's a little buggy; sometimes new messages make your view scroll up instead of down. But it works well enough most of the time.

What I Experience with Mattermost

Mattermost gives me the ability to coordinate on projects with colleagues via company communication channels.

단점:

I have never experienced a flaw on Mattermost which lasted for more than a day.

An excellent messaging alternative

주석: We moved a large team of users in a very short time. Since we only need the communicator 99% of the time for communication between users, we reduced the cost of paying for another tool by 96%. With a similar look and functionality to other instant messengers, the transition was quick and painless. The team very quickly implemented and accepted the new tool.

장점:

Convenience of installation, practically free for most users, quick and easy implementation, very similar in appearance and functionality to top messengers, so it is very easy to move even a large group of users. Works fast and does not consume a lot of memory. Lots of add-ons and plug-ins being developed.

단점:

A few UX issues, but not significantly affecting the user experience. For example: No ability to search for users directly from the search bar, no preview of more than 1 image file, no internal media player, linking to YouTube instead of playing right away.

Good collaborative tool

주석: It is good collaborative tool as alternative to slack.

장점:

I like how easy is to use and allows different "rooms" for collaboration for teams. It is a great tool for fast daily communication.

단점:

Not much that I didn't like but I have been using for so long different products so habbit of using and switching to it was a tricky part. Maybe lack of 3ed party connection to tools.

Internal Communication Matters Most in Every Organization

장점:

Mattermost has a mobile application which I use on a daily basis to send files and collaborate vi a instant messaging.

단점:

To conference through video calls it requires to be integrated with external apps.

Mattermost Review by Mechanical Engineer

In our entire construction agency, we rely on Mattermost on matters of web conferencing and BIM.

단점:

Even though it synchronizes messages after connecting to the internet, it doesn’t support offline access.

I like that Mattermost not only offer instant messaging tools but also allocate web conferencing capabilities.

단점:

Searching keywords on chat doesn’t hide messages on private chats.

Internal Communications made Easy by Mattermost

장점:

All teams in my organization use Mattermost; it unify us in one central repository.

단점:

I shifted from Slack and I have never experienced any drawback on Mattermost.

A good alternative to Slack

주석: We ended up looking for an alternative to Mattermost because of Slack's price-performance ratio and would switch again today.

장점:

Mattermost is constantly being developed and you can tell that it's going further. In addition, as a collaboration tool, it provides the most important information. No more and no less.

단점:

At the beginning (approx. 2018) it was still a bit unstable and some important features were still missing. This has gotten much better in 2022. Over the years, with many users, maintenance and upkeep should never be neglected. Otherwise it will be slow and have long loading times when changing channels etc. Plugins work, but not all are mature (e.g. Jitsi caused problems for us)

mattermost review

주석: I use mattermos mohr than one year, but still can not used to it. main reason is that when I get the new notification, I don't get some signal, or beep. it doesn't appears on screen.

장점:

mattermost is our companies inside network. we use it everyday to communicate. I like it because I have it also in my mobile. now when I work remotely, i am not always nearby computer and with mattermost I am always in touch.

단점:

Very intuitive and solid software which is perfect for running a slack replacement on premise.

주석: A super and ready to use Slack alternative.

장점:

* The replacement of slack * Mattermost has almost the same features as Slack * You can host and run your own instance on your own server (For companies which hate clouds) :) * You have a good overview of logs and you can see what goes around * The statistics gives a good point when a dev team is productive * You can easily create unlimited integrations which some internal stuff

단점:

* The lack of integrations (Slack is here over the top) * The incoming hook limitation of maximum content length is the hell (Mattermost don't inform the customer about a message which was higher above the hard coded message size limit) * UX in Slack is a little bit better (Slack is massively using websockets and eventstreams to fetch the actual team messages) -> You see always whats going on * A 'Unread' channel (like in slack) would be a pleasure ;) * A step by step guide for creating an integration would not bad for not advanced users

Better than Slack

주석: Apart from the shortcut breaking the @-mentioning on my AZERTY keyboard, mattermost is a fantastic tool.

장점:

The ability to add many channels, with/without passwords, as and when needed. Combining multiple servers with separate usersets.

단점:

Since one of the more recent versions, they've altered a couple of shortcuts. One of these means I can no longer type an @-sign, making mentioning people rather difficult.

it was improvement

주석: overall despite it being hard to install manually on smartphones it is way better than our past solution.

장점:

we had to change from past solution to mattermost, it was huge jump. mainly it's chatting way between company so its mainly informal and matter mostly offers modern chat features, custom emoji emoji etc.

단점:

getting mobile app and making it running is little bit hard because you need to know your chat server and its little bit hard for most people.

Mattermost for 24.7 BIM, Live Chat & PM

주석: File sharing, team collaboration, BIM and live chat.

장점:

Ever since I started using Mattermost, it has never been daunting to send large files online, collaborate via unlimited communication channels and manage projects automatically.

단점:

I do not like how Mattermost can’t function in absence of mobile data or WiFi.

Mattermost Matters Most in Our Agency

장점:

Mattermost boost productivity by unifying teams in my organization in one single workspace through corporate communication channels.

단점:

Video conferencing isn’t robust enough that’s why it demands to be integrated with external web conferencing systems like Zoom Meetings.

Best Slack alternative

주석: It was our daily communication tool between the team. We used it to share information and discuss about initiatives. We used that tool during a non-pandemic period but I think it will probably be successful during the times being because of the increase of remote work. We finally decided to switch to Slack.

장점:

It's an open source application that fits good when you also work with gitlab, with was our case. Its cost is considerable lower than Slack when having a lot of users. It fulfills its function, it allows you to communicate with your team just as you would with slack, and it has many integration plugins so you can connect it with many other apps.

단점:

As a user I didn't see any problem using the application. It was usable and efficient enough. Mobile application was not so good at that moment, but the web app worked fine!

A self-hosted alternative to Slack and Teams

장점:

One of the most critical aspects of Mattermost: it's self-hosted. Yes, that means additional work for hosting, but it also ensures our internal communication stays internal. We use Mattermost for almost all of our discussion​, and it has dramatically improved our workday.

단점:

Mobile clients exist, but there are not necessarily​ great. I often use the website instead of the mobile client, because it is quicker and the status of my colleagues is actually shown correctly.

The bridge between face to face and email

장점:

When it's too much to send an email or you can't be bothered to get out of your chair, Mattermost is perfect. It allows all our staff to quickly chat about things without clogging up inboxes or having them on their phones. Groups and channels are great, especially for management needs.

단점:

The ability to preview non-image files would be nice, some files,​ have to be downloaded to be previewed.

Easy way for communications

주석: Overall Mattermost is very convenient for me. I have access from my android phone as well. so i can chat with colegues from anywhere. This is important for me.

장점:

Mattermost is easy to use. It helps me rapidly contact colegues, chat with them and so fix problems. i can easily share files. i use it daily. it simplifies my work a lot.

단점:

To be honest, i don't like user interface. it seems boring for me.

The best alternative to Slack and best work messaging app on the market

장점:

There are not that many good options for team messaging apps. Hipchat or Microsoft Teams do not even come close in terms of either functionality or scalability from a slack. Hipchat,Yammer, Skype were from another generation. However slack is expensive, and they limit your search history, if you're using their free version. Mattermost has the exact same functionalities but its code base is totally open so it can be integrated with anything you can think of (even those legacy applications that Slack won't bother with).

단점:

Might take you an hour to deploy. and if you're not familiar with deploying applications you might have to read the instructions... But other than that. It's a 10/10.

makes communication more joyful

주석: despite it being little more harder to use, it's more enjoyable sometimes all you need after hard day at work is funny co worker sending some hilarious gif.

장점:

the main think i like in Mattermost is design it feels lighter, it makes me feel happy, emojis are great way to impress and make communication more informal, also ability to use gifs is one of most useful features

단점:

compared to other communicators i used it feels little bit harder to use, its easy nothing very difficult but it feels like i need some extra effort to find person and use direct messaging.

Great tool for internal communication / discussion

장점:

Mattermost is my go-to tool when you want to discuss something with colleagues. Ability to create public/private channels and send private messages both work nice and easy.

단점:

No so great for file sharing and doesn't work as a discussion tool outside your organisation.

Complete, reliable and user friendly, also for the administration part.

주석: Better team communication, improved efficiency, new communication channel

장점:

New features coming without increasing complexity for the user, the open source DNA, it's capacity to integrate anywhere.

단점:

The mobile app could be faster, and I miss the capacity to paste easily something with more than 4000 characters.
